Sinner Advances to Face Rublev in French Open Fourth Round
PARIS: Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, cruised to a decisive straight-sets victory over Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka, with a score of 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, in the French Open’s third round. The match took place at Court Suzanne Lenglen on Saturday.
This triumph propels the Italian Open finalist into the tournament’s fourth round, where he aims to add another title to his collection.
Reflecting on his dominant performance, Sinner voiced his satisfaction and commended Lehecka’s courageous effort.
The Italian athlete also jokingly expressed his relief at performing well on his coach’s birthday, a day he typically struggles.
Sinner’s Comments
- “Today I was playing really, really well,” Sinner stated.
- “He was serving very well and brave. But I am very happy.”
- “My coach had (his) birthday yesterday and usually when he has birthday I don’t play good. Luckily I was not playing yesterday.”
Sinner initiated the match strongly, securing a ‘bagel’ in the first set and maintaining control over Lehecka until the match’s conclusion.
The top seed has now extended his winning streak at Grand Slam competitions to 17 matches, following his victories at the 2024 US Open and the Australian Open in January.
His next challenge will be against 17th seed Andrey Rublev, who advanced after his French opponent, Arthur Fils, withdrew due to a back injury.
