Sinner and Swiatek Shine at Cincinnati Open
World number one and defending champion, Jannik Sinner, commenced his Cincinnati Open campaign impressively, defeating Colombian qualifier Daniel Galan with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Sinner exhibited dominance throughout the contest, concluding the match in a swift 59 minutes. This victory marks his quickest ATP triumph in completed matches.
Previously, in 2019, Jannik achieved a faster win against Mikael Ymer at the Next Gen ATP Finals in 56 minutes; however, it was under a different format involving shorter sets.
Jannik Sinner is now scheduled to compete against Canadian Gabriel Diallo.
Reflecting on the playing conditions, the Italian noted the challenges presented by the court.

“The court conditions here are challenging, the ball travels rapidly,” Sinner stated. “Losing confidence in a few shots can significantly impact one’s performance.”
Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, showing excellent form after an early exit in Montreal, secured a decisive first set and defended four break points in the second to overcome Anastasia Potapova 6-1, 6-4.
Swiatek is slated to face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the next round, against whom she holds a flawless 3-0 record.
Australian Open champion Madison Keys rebounded from a set down to defeat German Eva Lys with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(1) victory, securing her place in the third round against Japan’s Aoi Ito.
Fourth seed Taylor Fritz outperformed his American counterpart Emilio Nava 6-4, 6-4, setting up a clash with Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
