Sinner Set to Clash with French Qualifier Terence Atmane
CINCINNATI: Current champion Jannik Sinner maintained his strong performance at the Cincinnati Open, securing a decisive 6-0, 6-2 victory over Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime on Thursday at the P&G Center Court.
The world’s top-ranked player has now extended his winning streak on hard courts to an impressive 25 matches. He is now the fifth player this century to achieve such a feat, alongside Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray.
Sinner exhibited dominance throughout the match, capitalizing on the 29 unforced errors made by Auger-Aliassime. This victory marks his first in three encounters against the 23rd-seeded Canadian, concluding the match in just 71 minutes with a sequence of six successive games.
Following his win, the 23-year-old expressed his positive feelings on the court and confirmed his commitment to hard work in preparation for the semi-finals.
Sinner’s Statement
“I felt fantastic on the court today. I think it was evident, but each day presents its own challenges,” Sinner stated.
“Tomorrow is a rest day, which is beneficial for me. We’ll focus on practicing and assess my capabilities for the semi-finals,” he added.
Sinner is scheduled to compete against French qualifier Terence Atmane on Wednesday. Atmane made a strong impression by defeating Danish seventh seed Holger Rune with a score of 6-2, 6-3, earning his place in the semi-finals.
In related events, American player Ben Shelton has progressed to the quarter-finals, while Coco Gauff secured her spot with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti. Gauff is set to face fellow Italian Jasmine Paolini in the subsequent round.
