CSK Acquires Dewald Brevis for IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured the services of South African batter Dewald Brevis on Friday for the duration of the IPL 2025 season.

The 21-year-old Brevis replaces fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh in the squad. With one international player spot available, CSK moved quickly to sign the powerful hitter.

Despite an initial base price of INR 75 lakh at last year’s auction, CSK has invested INR 2.2 crore to acquire Brevis, showing confidence in his ability and potential impact.

This acquisition is viewed as a significant achievement for the five-time IPL champions, adding a promising young talent to their roster.

Even with limited international appearances for South Africa, Brevis has garnered attention for his aggressive batting, often drawing comparisons to AB de Villiers.

Brevis has previously played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, participating in 10 matches, and continues to represent MI’s associated teams in Major League Cricket (MLC) and SA20.

He enters the IPL following a strong domestic season with the Titans, demonstrating consistent performances in both List A and first-class cricket.

Brevis also stood out in the recent SA20 season, ranking among the top 10 run-scorers and achieving the highest strike rate of the tournament at 184.17.

Brevis joins a CSK team that is currently struggling, sitting at the bottom of the standings with only two victories so far. The franchise hopes his inclusion will provide a boost to the team’s performance.

Brevis marks the second replacement player for CSK this season, following the earlier addition of Ayush Mhatre, who replaced regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

CSK is set to face the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 20 in their next match.
