Archer to Undergo Medical Review, Ruled Out of ODI Series
LONDON: England’s Jofra Archer will be sidelined for the upcoming One Day International series against the West Indies due to a right thumb injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday.
The cricket board stated that the right-arm fast bowler will be evaluated by the medical team in the coming weeks to ascertain a possible return date.
“Jofra Archer, the pace bowler for England Men’s and Sussex, is ruled out of the Metro Bank ODI series versus the West Indies because of a right thumb injury,” according to the ECB statement.
The statement further noted, “He is set to be reassessed by England’s medical staff over the next two weeks to decide when he can resume playing.”
It is worth mentioning that the 30-year-old Archer was previously not selected for the T20I series against the West Indies as he was slated to play for England Lions against India A in Northampton, beginning June 6.
His participation in the unofficial Tests is now uncertain due to the thumb injury, pending the ECB medical team’s assessment of the injury’s severity.
Lancashire pacer Luke Wood, who recently played for Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, has replaced Jofra Archer in the squad.
The three-match ODI series is scheduled to commence on May 29 in Birmingham. The subsequent matches will take place on June 1 and 3.
