Historic Milestone: India-England Test Series Sets New Record

In the ongoing five-match series between India and England, Test cricket has witnessed a remarkable achievement. A new record has been established with a total of 50 scores of fifty or more runs, marking the highest number ever recorded in a single Test series.

To date, the series has showcased 19 centuries and 31 half-centuries. India currently leads with 28 scores exceeding fifty, while England has contributed 22.

This notable feat aligns with another significant milestone: the highest cumulative run total in a five-match Test series.

The previous record was held by the 1928-29 Ashes series, where English and Australian batters collectively scored 6,606 runs.

The prior benchmark for the most fifty-plus scores in a five-match series was 49, achieved during the 1920-21 Ashes series.

Another noteworthy instance occurred during the 1993 Ashes, which featured 50 fifty-plus scores but spanned six matches. This makes the current India-England series the first to attain this figure within five Tests.

Joe Root’s Remarkable Achievement

England’s Joe Root also made history on Sunday by becoming the first player to accumulate 6,000 runs in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The 34-year-old reached this milestone during the ongoing five-Test series against India, adding another accomplishment to his distinguished career.

Root, participating in his 69th WTC Test, remains the tournament’s top run-scorer, having played in all four editions since its inception.

Root’s outstanding WTC record includes 20 centuries and 23 half-centuries, with an average of over 52.

He leads a list of star players, including Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Ben Stokes, and Travis Head, in the top five run-scorers.

This achievement adds to a string of successes for the former England captain. Previously in Manchester, Root surpassed legends Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in men’s Test cricket.

He now shares the fourth position for the most centuries in Test cricket, with 38, alongside Kumar Sangakkara.

Furthermore, Root holds the record for the most catches as an outfield player in this format, a milestone he reached during the current series.
