Swiatek Clinches Wimbledon Title, Continuing First-Time Champion Streak
Iga Swiatek achieved a decisive victory over Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-0, 6-0 to secure her first Wimbledon title and her sixth Grand Slam overall on Saturday, definitively showcasing her prowess on grass courts.
The eighth-seeded Polish player, who has maintained a perfect record in all six major finals she has contested, asserted control from the outset, concluding the match in a swift 57 minutes.
The 24-year-old Swiatek now marks the eighth consecutive instance of a first-time women’s champion at Wimbledon since Serena Williams claimed her seventh and final title at the All England Club in 2016.
Swiatek, having previously reached the final of the grass-court event in Bad Homburg just two weeks prior, demonstrated escalating strength as numerous top seeds were eliminated at the All England Club.
During her journey to the final, she conceded only a single set.
However, Anisimova, the 13th seed from the US, was anticipated to present a formidable challenge following her triumph over world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.
Anisimova displayed initial jitters under the warm conditions on Centre Court.
She faced an immediate setback with a break in the opening game, quickly trailing 2-0, signaling potential difficulties ahead.
Although she seemed to stabilize during her subsequent service game, the determined Swiatek stood firm, reclaiming ground to advance to a 3-0 lead after Anisimova committed a double fault.
Trailing 4-0, Anisimova risked a shutout in the first set but found herself unable to impede the dominant Swiatek, who sealed the set at 6-0 in merely 25 minutes.
The American player managed to win only six points on her serve during the first set and made 14 unforced errors.
As the second set began, an increasingly pressured Anisimova struggled to reverse the momentum, committing another double fault in the third game, thus granting her opponent a game point and subsequently netting a backhand.
Despite the crowd’s support, Iga Swiatek maintained her high performance level, serving out to win and then offering consolation to her defeated opponent.
