Pakistani Batsmen Slip in Latest ICC Test Rankings
Following a series of disappointing displays in recent Test matches both at home and abroad, several Pakistani cricketers have seen their positions decline in the most recent ICC Test rankings.
Babar Azam’s Ranking
Former skipper Babar Azam has fallen out of the top 20 in the ICC Test batting rankings and now occupies the 21st spot with a rating of 651 points.
Performance Analysis
- Despite accumulating 193 runs across four innings, including three half-centuries, in the two-Test series held in South Africa.
- His struggles against the West Indies on home soil, where he only managed 45 runs in four innings, have negatively impacted his ranking.
- It is worth noting that he was the second-highest scorer for Pakistan in the South Africa series.
Other Pakistani Batters
- Mohammad Rizwan has maintained his 14th position in the batting rankings with 671 points.
- Salman Ali Agha is currently ranked 32nd.
- Shan Masood has improved slightly, moving up one place to 46th with 542 points.
- Abdullah Shafique has also climbed to 53rd with 520 points.
Top Test Batsmen
England’s Joe Root continues to lead the batting rankings, followed by his compatriot Harry Brook in second place and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in third.
Bowling Rankings
In the bowling category, both Sajid Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi from Pakistan have dropped in the rankings. Sajid is now 22nd, and Shaheen is 23rd. However, Noman Ali has held his position at 6th, while Mohammad Abbas is 29th. Naseem Shah remains at 39th.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah is the top-ranked Test bowler, with South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada in second place.
All-Rounders
India’s Ravindra Jadeja remains the top all-rounder. No Pakistani player is currently in the top 20 all-rounders.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s Rise
Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz has made significant progress in the rankings, reaching second place among all-rounders after a strong performance in the recent Test series against Zimbabwe.
- The 27-year-old scored 116 runs and took 15 wickets in two matches.
- He achieved a career-best rating of 327 points, just 73 points behind Jadeja.
- Miraz was instrumental in Bangladesh’s victory in the second Test in Chattogram, scoring a century at No.7 and taking a five-wicket haul on the final day.
- His performance also lifted him eight places to 55th in the Test batting rankings.
