ICC Announces Schedule for 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially released the schedule for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. The competition is scheduled to commence on September 30 and conclude on November 2, spanning across five cities in both India and Sri Lanka.
The opening contest will see host nation India compete against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, defending champions Australia are set to begin their campaign against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand, the current T20 World Cup titleholders, on October 1 in Indore.
The format for the eight-team tournament will be a single round-robin. Each team will face all other teams once. The top four teams from the round-robin stage will then proceed to the semi-finals. Matches will be staged in Bengaluru, Vizag, Indore, Guwahati, and Colombo.
One semi-final is slated to occur in Bengaluru, while the location for the other semi-final will be either Colombo or Guwahati. The final match is scheduled for November 2, with both Bengaluru and Colombo being considered as potential host venues.
Prior to the main event, teams will participate in two warm-up matches each, starting from September 24. India is scheduled to play against 2022 runners-up England in a warm-up match in Bengaluru, followed by another match against South Africa on September 27 in Guwahati.
This upcoming edition will be the 13th of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, which began in 1973. Australia, having won their seventh title in 2022, achieved automatic qualification by leading the ICC Women’s Championship standings.
England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and India also directly qualified for the event. Pakistan and Bangladesh secured the remaining two positions by finishing in the top two at the Women’s World Cup Qualifier held in April.
