Corbin Bosch Sanctioned for Conduct Breach in T20I

DARWIN: Corbin Bosch, the South African all-rounder, has faced a sanction for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during Tuesday’s second T20I match against Australia.

Bosch was penalized for breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article addresses actions or gestures that could be interpreted as disparaging or provoke an aggressive response from a batter after their dismissal in an International Match.

The specific instance took place in the 17th over of the Australian innings. Following the dismissal of Ben Dwarshuis, Bosch made a demonstrative gesture directed towards the dugout.

Consequently, Bosch received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. He accepted the proposed sanction from the ICC Match Officials, thus avoiding a formal hearing.

The match held considerable importance for South Africa, who were trailing 1-0 in the series and required a victory to stay in contention. Dewald Brevis’s spectacular, unbeaten innings of 125 from 56 balls boosted the Proteas to a total of 218/7 after they had a shaky beginning.

The 22-year-old reached his century in just 41 balls, making him the youngest player to score a Men’s T20I century for South Africa and achieving the second-fastest T20I century in the country’s history.

In response, Australia’s Tim David scored a rapid 50 from 24 balls, providing a brief period of hope. However, Bosch and Kwena Maphaka each took three wickets, dismissing the hosts for 165 and securing a 53-run victory for South Africa.

The series will now be decided in Cairns on Saturday, preceding the ODI leg that starts on August 19.
