ICC Announces Nominees for Women’s Player of the Month – May 2025
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially revealed the nominations for the Women’s Player of the Month award for May 2025. The nominees showcase exceptional performances from leading cricketers representing the West Indies, South Africa, and India.
Hayley Matthews (West Indies)
Hayley Matthews, the dynamic West Indies captain, has carried her strong form from the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan into subsequent matches. She led her squad during their white-ball tour of England, particularly shining in the three-match T20I series. Matthews amassed 177 runs at an impressive strike rate of 137.20 and an average of 88.50. Additionally, she claimed three wickets, earning her the Player of the Series accolade. Her all-around capabilities extended into the initial ODI against England, where she scored 48 runs and secured two wickets.
Chloe Tyron (South Africa)
South Africa’s all-rounder, Chloe Tyron, played a pivotal role in her team’s performance in the ODI tri-series against India and Sri Lanka. Tyron accumulated 176 runs across three ODIs, maintaining an average of 58.66, and captured six wickets with an economy rate of 5 runs per over. Her standout effort was during South Africa’s final tri-series match against Sri Lanka, where she scored a vital 74 runs, assisting the Proteas in exceeding the 300-run mark. Furthermore, she achieved her first ODI five-wicket haul, ending with figures of 5/34.
Jemimah Rodrigues (India)
India’s batting star, Jemimah Rodrigues, was crucial in her team’s successful tri-series campaign in Sri Lanka. Rodrigues scored 204 runs in the final three matches, which included a significant innings in the final that helped India secure the trophy before the Women’s Cricket World Cup on home soil. Her most notable performance was in the semi-final match against South Africa, where, following her first ODI century earlier in the year, she achieved her second ODI century, scoring a remarkable 123 runs from 101 deliveries, which included 15 boundaries and one six. In the final against Sri Lanka, she added a valuable 44 runs, enabling India to reach a dominant total and secure an easy 97-run victory.
