Hyderabad Region Dominates Karachi (W) in Hanif Mohammad Trophy

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Displaying excellent form, Hyderabad Region amassed a substantial 637-7 declared in 140.2 overs during their first innings on the second day against Karachi Region (W) at the Abbasia Sports Complex in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy 2025-26.

Hyderabad’s innings began shakily, with opener Haris Khan falling early for a mere two runs, dismissed by Muhammad Raza in the second over.

Shortly after, Muhammad Sadam Saeed was also sent back to the pavilion for 16, leaving Hyderabad in a precarious position at 43/2 in the 15th over.

At this critical juncture, Saad Khan played a vital role, crafting a solid 99 off 133 deliveries, decorated with 15 boundaries and a six. His composed batting performance stabilized the innings, advancing the score to 210/3, before unfortunately missing out on a century by a single run.

The momentum truly shifted through a remarkable partnership between Muhammad Suleman and Rizwan Mehmood. Suleman hammered a striking 159 off 185 balls, featuring 24 fours and a six, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 85.95.

Simultaneously, Rizwan solidified the innings with a resilient 189 off 274 balls, punctuated by 23 boundaries. His elegant and measured approach not only rescued Hyderabad but also established their firm control over the match.

Adding to Karachi’s troubles, Ali Shan contributed a splendid 100 off 130 balls, including 17 fours, before retiring hurt. His effort further reinforced Hyderabad’s commanding total.

In the lower order, Daniyal Hussain Rajput added 18 runs, while Noman Ali contributed a rapid 17 off 17 deliveries. Jawad Ali remained at the crease with seven runs when the declaration was made at 637/7.

For Karachi, Muhammad Raza, Asad Akhtar, and Aarish Ali Khan each claimed two wickets, while Usman Raheem secured one.

In response, Karachi Region reached 113-1 in 29 overs by the end of the second day. Mirza Saad Baig (41 off 79) and Mohammad Taha (20 off 25) remained undefeated at the stumps.

The team saw Khawaja Nafay depart for 29 off 45 balls, his innings featuring four boundaries and a six, while opener Jahanzaib Sultan retired hurt after scoring 22 off 25 balls.

As they head into the third day, Karachi trails by 524 runs with nine wickets remaining, requiring their batsmen to produce significant scores to remain competitive.
