Hrgovic Anticipates a Thrilling Rematch
According to Croatian heavyweight professional boxer Filip Hrgovic, Oleksandr Usyk holds a slight edge, but he wouldn’t be surprised if Daniel Dubois emerges victorious in their rematch scheduled for July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London.
Hrgovic, having previously faced Dubois in the ring, understands what it’s like to compete against the British fighter.
Dubois defeated the Croatian in June 2024. Subsequently, Dubois was elevated to full IBF champion following that bout and recently secured a victory against Anthony Joshua within five rounds.
Hrgovic shared his thoughts in a recent interview, explaining why the upcoming fight might differ from their first encounter.
“I believe this fight will be completely different from their first match. In their initial bout, Dubois was outmaneuvered and outclassed. However, I think he’s evolved into a different type of fighter. He has achieved three significant wins, boosting his confidence considerably. It seems he has improved his resilience; I’m not sure how, but his ability to take a punch is much better now,” Hrgovic stated.
“He’s transformed into a different fighter, so I’m anticipating a different dynamic compared to their first fight. While I still lean towards Usyk, I wouldn’t be shocked if Daniel Dubois wins. I predict it will be an intense battle, much more challenging for Usyk than the first time,” he added.
Usyk, who remains undefeated, initially fought Dubois in August 2023. Usyk secured a ninth-round KO victory in Poland, twice knocking down the British boxer. However, the fight sparked controversy when Usyk was dropped by a punch that officials deemed a low blow.
