Henry Believes Arsenal Should Have Secured More Titles Under Arteta
LONDON: Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal captain, has voiced his support for current manager Mikel Arteta. However, he emphasized that the team should have secured at least one title in the last three seasons to truly reflect their progress.
Since taking over in 2019, Mikel Arteta has revitalized Arsenal, turning them into a competitive team. Nevertheless, their trophy cabinet includes only one major title during his tenure: the FA Cup earned in 2020.
Arsenal has been the Premier League runner-up in three successive seasons. On two occasions, they closely challenged Manchester City, but most recently, they lagged significantly behind Liverpool.
The team’s Champions League journey ended in the semi-finals, following a quarter-final appearance the previous season. Additionally, they were eliminated in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
Henry stated that while he isn’t disappointed, it’s natural for questions to arise regarding the team’s performance.
He elaborated that the team ought to have captured at least one cup.
“I’m not expressing disappointment with Arsenal, but it’s understandable that questions are being raised about the team’s current trajectory,” Henry commented.
“Initially, upon arrival, it’s not your established team. It requires a minimum of three or four transfer windows to implement the desired changes.
“It necessitates time, and managers should be granted the opportunity to implement their vision. Over the past three years, Arsenal should have, at the very least, secured one cup or advanced to a final.”
