Multan Sultans Determined to Bounce Back in PSL 10, Says Spin Bowling Coach
Despite a shaky beginning to the season, Multan Sultans’ spin bowling coach, Alex Hartley, conveyed strong optimism that the squad will persevere in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.
Hartley is confident that the Sultans can improve their performance and obtain a position in the playoffs.
During a rigorous training session held at Lahore’s LCCA Ground, Hartley told reporters about her positive outlook, stressing the team’s commitment to maintaining a positive attitude, regrouping, and making a significant effort to advance to the playoffs.
Despite a difficult campaign in the 2025 PSL, in which Multan Sultans have only won one of their five games, Hartley remains confident that the team still has a chance to make it to the playoffs.
“This is my second year with the Sultans. There’s definitely more pressure this season, as we haven’t won as many matches as last year,” Hartley stated.
“But the important thing is we are not out of it yet. We can still qualify for the playoffs. The environment is positive, and seeing the players smiling despite the pressure is a great sign,” she continued.
Hartley also talked about her experiences as a female coach in a men’s league, emphasizing the significance of professionalism and mutual respect.
“I have played cricket for almost 18 years, and coaching is a new phase for me. While I sometimes work with people who are older or have more experience, I believe it always boils down to respect, which is mutual,” Hartley clarified.
She also voiced her faith in Usama Mir’s prospects for selection to the national team, stating, “Usama claimed many wickets last season. Although he did not get many during his national stint, his bowling remained highly effective. He requires consistent opportunities, and I am confident that he will succeed.”
The Multan Sultans are presently in last place in the PSL 10 points standings, with only two points earned from five games due to one victory and four losses.
On a brighter note, Hartley lauded Pakistan’s women’s cricket team for their undefeated run in the ICC World Cup Qualifier. She added, “They’ve been impressive. I had wonderful conversations with captain Fatima Sana and coach Mohammad Wasim—I think Pakistan Women can surprise many in the World Cup.”
Hartley addressed her recent criticism of the England women’s squad, stating, “As a former player and current commentator, my job is to provide honest analysis. I am passionate about England cricket; I am not trying to destroy it. I want them to improve.”
It is important to note that the Multan Sultans have competed in five games this season, winning one and losing four. They are in last place with only two points.
