Goldberg Ends Legendary Wrestling Career

GEORGIA: A momentous occasion unfolded at WWE’s latest premium live event just ahead of SummerSlam 2025, as the iconic Goldberg officially concluded his celebrated wrestling journey.

Before an enthusiastic crowd in Atlanta, Georgia, his current residence, the 57-year-old legend faced off against Gunther, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.

This main event clash marked the peak of a year-long feud between these two formidable competitors, ignited by a fierce altercation at the Bad Blood event held at the same arena in 2024.

With the World Heavyweight Championship at stake and retirement looming, Goldberg delivered an exceptional performance, arguably his finest since his WWE return in 2016.

In contrast to his typically brief encounters, Goldberg endured a challenging 14-minute battle, exhibiting remarkable stamina and technical skill despite a nagging knee injury.

He executed his renowned Spear and Jackhammer combination, but Gunther demonstrated his tenacity, thwarting the pin attempt and stunning the audience. Adding emotional depth, Goldberg’s son, Gage, became involved at ringside during a pivotal moment.

Ultimately, Gunther proved too strong, securing a rear naked choke that rendered Goldberg unconscious. This technical submission marked only the second instance in Goldberg’s career where he passed out in the ring, the first occurring against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.

Goldberg’s departure brings to a close an illustrious career that commenced in 1997 with WCW.

He achieved fame with an unparalleled 173-match undefeated streak and claimed five world championships across both WCW and WWE, including two Universal Title reigns during his comeback period.

His last championship triumph occurred in 2020 with a victory over “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. He received induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
