HARARE (Web Desk): Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib has been fined 15% of his match fee after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday.
Incident Leading to Fine
Naib was penalized for violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” during an international match.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of Zimbabwe’s innings when Rashid Khan appealed for an LBW against Tashinga Musekiwa. The umpire turned down the appeal, and Gulbadin Naib displayed his dissent by mocking a prayer and requesting a review—despite the fact that DRS (Decision Review System) was unavailable for the match.
Penalty and Demerit Point
In addition to the fine, Naib has been handed a demerit point, marking his first offence within a 24-month period. The penalty was confirmed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft, and Naib accepted the sanction without contest, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Conclusion
The match ended with a 1-1 tie in the series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, with both teams gearing up for the decider on Saturday, 14 December, at Harare Sports Club.
