Guardians Secure Victory Over Mets in Thrilling MLB Showdown
NEW YORK: In a captivating MLB game at Citi Field on Tuesday night, Steven Kwan’s crucial single in the seventh inning propelled the Cleveland Guardians to a 3-2 triumph against the New York Mets.
Kwan had a two-for-four performance, driving in C.J. Kayfus with a pivotal two-out single up the middle off reliever Tyler Rogers. This broke a 2-2 deadlock and marked Cleveland’s sixth victory in their last seven games.
The Guardians have clinched the initial two games of this three-game interleague series and have improved their record to 18-7 since July 7, positioning them with the third-best record in MLB during this period.
Cleveland’s comeback commenced in the fourth inning when Kyle Manzardo and Gabriel Arias each delivered RBI singles against Mets starter Clay Holmes, who conceded all three hits and issued a walk during that inning. Holmes concluded his outing after five innings with the score tied at 2-2.
Guardians pitcher Logan Allen also pitched for five innings, conceding two runs on four hits and four walks, while recording six strikeouts.
He navigated a bases-loaded situation in the second inning, thanks to a significant double play initiated by Brayan Rocchio.
Subsequently, Cleveland’s bullpen demonstrated dominance, retiring the final 14 Mets batters consecutively. Matt Festa secured the win with a flawless sixth inning, and Cade Smith sealed the victory with a clean ninth inning, earning his fourth save.
Pete Alonso’s sacrifice fly and Tyrone Taylor’s RBI single had initially given the Mets a 2-0 advantage, but New York’s struggles persisted, as they have now suffered defeats in seven of their last eight games, including four consecutive losses at home.
The Guardians aimed for a series sweep on Wednesday afternoon, with Gavin Williams scheduled to face Mets left-hander David Peterson.
