Giants Edge Phillies in MLB Showdown

SAN FRANCISCO: In Monday night’s Major League Baseball (MLB) game, Matt Chapman’s impressive performance, featuring three hits and two runs, propelled the San Francisco Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Giants capitalized in the eighth inning when Orion Kerkering (5-4) hit Willy Adames with a pitch. Subsequently, Chapman singled, advancing Adames to third, and Wilmer Flores loaded the bases.

Casey Schmitt and Jung Hoo Lee then drove in the decisive runs with productive ground balls, securing the Giants’ lead.

Schmitt’s appearance marked his return to the Giants’ lineup after a 10-game absence following being hit by a pitch on June 25.

Tyler Rogers (4-2) earned the win, despite allowing a leadoff single to Kyle Schwarber in the eighth. Camilo Doval closed the game with a scoreless ninth, notching his 14th save.

Ryan Walker contributed a scoreless inning, recording one strikeout.

Landen Roupp pitched five innings for the Giants, surrendering one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out three.

The Phillies managed to tie the score at one apiece in the fifth against Roupp, marking their sole run against him.

Chapman stood out with a game-high three hits, including a double and two singles, marking his third three-hit game of the season.

Looking ahead, Phillies’ Taijuan Walker (3-5, 3.64 ERA) is scheduled to face Giants’ Robbie Ray (9-3, 2.68) on Tuesday.
