Giants to Conclude Series Against Athletics with Lopez on the Mound
WEST SACRAMENTO: In a compelling display at Sutter Health Park on Saturday, Willy Adames shone with three hits and four RBIs. Logan Webb contributed six and two-thirds innings of quality pitching, propelling the San Francisco Giants to a 7-2 triumph over the Oakland Athletics.
Webb exhibited control, conceding only two runs from seven hits, alongside six strikeouts and three walks.
The Giants initiated the scoring early against Oakland’s starter, Luis Severino, who struggled with command in the opening inning. He walked Mike Yastrzemski and hit two batsmen, loading the bases.
Adames then drove a two-run single into center field, providing San Francisco with an initial 2-0 advantage. The Athletics countered in the second inning with a run resulting from a double-play grounder by Tyler Soderstrom.
The Giants extended their lead in the third inning, again powered by a two-run single from Adames, followed by consecutive two-out hits from Matt Chapman and Jung Hoo Lee.
Heliot Ramos amplified the lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run. His leadoff shot traveled 416 feet, widening the score to 5-1. Brett Wisely further contributed with a two-run hit in the sixth inning, stretching the lead to 7-1.
Nick Kurtz tallied two hits and an RBI for the Athletics in the sixth, finalizing the score at 7-2.
Severino’s struggles continued at home, giving up five runs in four and one-third innings. His record at Sutter Health Park dropped to 0-8 in 11 starts, with an ERA now at 7.04.
The Giants’ bullpen, featuring Randy Rodriguez, Tyler Rogers, and Spencer Bivens, ensured the win with scoreless innings. San Francisco’s Hayden Birdsong is slated to start Sunday’s series finale against Oakland’s Jacob Lopez.
