Liverpool Appoints Gareth Taylor as New Women’s Team Head Coach
Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the appointment of Gareth Taylor as the new head coach for their women’s team. The announcement was made Friday.
Taylor’s appointment comes five months after his departure from Manchester City, where he served as coach for five years. During his tenure with City, he led the team to victories in both the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Under his guidance, Manchester City narrowly missed out on the Women’s Super League title in 2024, finishing as runners-up to Chelsea on goal difference.
It’s worth mentioning that Taylor was dismissed by Manchester City in March, just before their crucial match against Chelsea, reportedly due to the team’s unsatisfactory performance. Following his exit, City concluded the Women’s Super League season in fourth position.
Liverpool finished seventh in the league last season.
Upon joining Liverpool, Taylor expressed his enthusiasm, stating that he is well aware of the club’s esteemed history and potential. He conveyed his eagerness to make a meaningful contribution to the team.
Taylor’s Statement:
“Everyone in football recognizes the history, magnitude, and future possibilities of Liverpool Football Club, and I am genuinely excited about the challenge that lies ahead,” Taylor commented.
Taylor further elaborated on his vision, emphasizing the creation of a team that embodies quality football and consistently achieves success.
“Our objective is to cultivate a team that garners the pride of its supporters, showcases exceptional football, and, most importantly, attains success in all its endeavors.”
Andy O’Boyle, the managing director of Liverpool’s women’s program, warmly welcomed Taylor’s arrival, highlighting his impressive track record.
O’Boyle’s Remarks:
The managing director of Liverpool’s women’s program, Andy O’Boyle, further applauded his inclusion to the team, noting that he possesses an outstanding history and has nurtured remarkable players in the past.
“He brings a wealth of experience in building successful, identity-driven teams, and his expertise in player development is unparalleled,” O’Boyle affirmed.
