Beasley Played for Pistons in 2024-25 NBA Season

NBA free-agent guard Malik Beasley has been removed as a person of interest in a federal investigation regarding gambling, his legal representatives have stated, according to international reports on Friday.

Authorities in New York’s Eastern District scrutinized accusations connecting Beasley to gambling activities related to NBA contests and proposition bets during the 2023-24 season when he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Beasley’s lawyer, Steve Haney, asserted that Malik faces no charges and is not the subject of the ongoing inquiry.

“Even after several months since the start of this probe, Malik has not been charged and is not being investigated,” Haney commented.

“An unproven allegation, without any indictment, charge, or conviction, should not result in the devastating outcomes that Malik has experienced. This situation is the antithesis of the principle of presumed innocence.”

Beasley participated with the Detroit Pistons in the 2024-25 NBA season under a one-year, $6 million agreement.

Sources indicate that Beasley’s $42 million, three-year contract was temporarily suspended because of these allegations.

The 28-year-old Beasley recorded an average of 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, achieving a 41.6% success rate from three-point range throughout all 82 games (with 18 starts) he played for the Pistons this past season.

Having played for teams such as the Denver Nuggets (2016-20), Minneapolis Timberwolves (2020-22), Utah Jazz (2022-23), Los Angeles Lakers (2023), and Bucks (2023-24), Beasley holds career averages of 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

Beasley was suspended for 12 games back in 2021 by the NBA after entering a guilty plea for making felony threats of violence. Following the 2020-21 season, he was given a 120-day jail sentence, but he was released after 78 days.
