Pakistan Hockey Federation Invited to FIH Pro League Amidst Financial Concerns
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has received an official invitation from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to participate in the upcoming FIH Pro League, according to sources. This opportunity arose following New Zealand’s withdrawal from the league’s next season.
After finishing as runners-up in the Nations Cup final in Malaysia, where they were defeated by New Zealand with a score of 6-2, Pakistan has been offered a spot in the esteemed competition.
However, the PHF’s participation is currently in doubt due to financial constraints. It is estimated that the federation needs more than Rs 500 million to ensure the team’s involvement in the league.
The PHF has been given until Friday, June 27, to provide an initial response. Failure to participate after confirming could result in substantial penalties and potential sanctions from the FIH.
This situation places considerable pressure on the PHF to secure the necessary funds to capitalize on this significant opportunity. A formal announcement regarding Pakistan’s potential inclusion is anticipated from the FIH soon. The FIH Pro League is a high-profile international tournament featuring the world’s top-ranked hockey nations.
Pakistan’s return to the league would be a landmark achievement, as the national team has been absent from recent editions, contributing to their current 17th position in the global rankings. Competing in the Pro League is seen as vital for restoring Pakistan’s presence and competitiveness in international hockey. The next FIH Pro League season is scheduled to commence in February 2026.
