Eze’s Departure from Crystal Palace Appears Imminent

Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, has seemingly confirmed Eberechi Eze’s departure, stating the midfielder has likely played his final match for the team, according to recent reports.

Eze was notably absent from Crystal Palace’s recent 1-0 victory against Fredrikstad in the Conference League playoff.

Previously, the Palace manager indicated Eze would be in the starting lineup for the first leg against Fredrikstad. However, Arsenal reportedly made a move to secure the midfielder’s signature.

Reports suggest Arsenal has reached an agreement with Eze, finalizing a deal valued at £60m with an additional £7.5m in potential add-ons.

Prior to Arsenal’s interest, Eze was linked with Spurs, who were optimistic about finalizing the deal after reaching agreements with both Crystal Palace and the player. However, Arsenal intervened to potentially hijack Tottenham’s pursuit.

On Thursday morning, Glasner indicated that Eze called in, reporting he was unwell and unable to participate, leading to his withdrawal from the squad. Justin Devenny took his place in the starting XI.

“I am accountable for Crystal Palace, and I don’t anticipate him playing for us again,” Glasner commented.

“Therefore, my focus is on preparing the team for the upcoming match against Nottingham [Forest in the Premier League on Sunday] and the second leg against Fredrikstad, and my preparations exclude Eberechi.”

When questioned about whether Eze’s absence was due to physical or mental reasons, Glasner responded, “That is something you would have to ask him. Perhaps in the coming days, you will have the opportunity to inquire.”

Glasner also mentioned that he had never experienced a situation where a player called in to declare their unavailability.

“No,” Glasner affirmed. “And I hope such a situation does not occur again.”
