Higginbotham Sets Top Six Target for Amorim Next Season
Former Manchester United player Danny Higginbotham has challenged Ruben Amorim to guide his team to a top-six finish in the Premier League during the 2025/26 campaign.
Amorim’s squad concluded the current Premier League season in 15th position, missing out on European competition next year and a spot in the Club World Cup, which commences on June 15.
In a recent interview, Higginbotham emphasized that the upcoming season should serve as the true measure of Amorim’s capabilities, with a top-six finish being a reasonable objective.
“I believe next season is when Amorim’s performance will truly be assessed. There’s no question about it. The expectation should be a top-six finish – that’s a fair assessment,” Higginbotham stated.
“This season was essentially written off, with all focus placed on the Europa League, which ultimately didn’t pan out. Their performance in the final was quite poor. However, Amorim now has a full preseason to work with the players. Since he took charge, aside from the Europa League, it felt like the players were being evaluated.”
Initially uncertain about Amorim’s strategy, Higginbotham now finds encouragement in the club’s transfer market activity. The acquisitions, like Matheus Cunha and the potential addition of Bryan Mbeumo, indicate a serious intent to bolster the squad.
“As a supporter, I reserved judgment on Amorim. His only significant signing, Patrick Dorgu, has been a consistent presence in the lineup. I am pleasantly surprised by their transfer window objectives,” Higginbotham remarked.
“The potential arrival of players like Bryan Mbeumo, alongside Matheus Cunha, marks a shift. It’s been a while since they’ve brought in established Premier League talents. This was a key strength when they were at their peak, attracting top players from within the Premier League and promising European talents, such as a young Cristiano Ronaldo.”
