Tiwary Expresses Disapproval of India-Pakistan Match
Manoj Tiwary, the former Indian cricketer, has shared his reservations regarding the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match in the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
Following the announcement by the Asian Cricket Council of the tournament schedule for the 2025 Asia Cup, Tiwary articulated his discontent with the prominent India-Pakistan showdown.
“I am not in favor of it. The India-Pakistan game should not take place. Considering the present circumstances, I believe it warrants reconsideration. How can we consider an India-Pakistan match in such an environment?” he stated.
The high-profile contest between the two rivals is slated for September 14. India and Pakistan are in Group A along with the UAE and Oman, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.
Tiwary’s comments arise amid ongoing discussions regarding whether sporting relations should proceed during periods of heightened regional tensions.
He underscored the importance of carefully assessing the situation before moving forward with significant matches between the two nations.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20 format, serving as a vital preparation platform for teams leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February.
A total of eight teams, divided into two groups, will compete for the coveted title. Pakistan and India are in Group A, along with the UAE and Oman, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.
The tournament will commence with a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on September 9.
Pakistan will begin their campaign against Oman on September 12, followed by the marquee match against India on September 14. Their final group-stage match is scheduled for September 17 against the UAE.
