Eubank Jr. Voices Unforgiveness Towards Benn Over Drug Violation
Chris Eubank Jr. has expressed that he remains unable to forgive Conor Benn after Benn’s positive drug test in 2022 led to the cancellation of their highly-anticipated match.
The two rivals eventually clashed in a middleweight fight at the end of April, reigniting their families’ storied animosity.
Eubank Jr. secured a close victory over Benn in a 12-round battle, with all judges scoring the contest 116-112 in his favor.
During a recent podcast appearance, Eubank Jr. explained why he refrained from shaking hands with Benn following their bout.
Eubank stated, “After the fight concluded, I chose not to shake his hand, offer congratulations, engage in conversation, or embrace him.”
He continued, “Most fighters, nearly all, typically do these things after a match, particularly after a fight of that nature. One would anticipate such gestures.”
“However, I simply couldn’t bring myself to do it. In my perspective, this individual remains a drugs cheat.”
“He attempted to gain an unfair advantage in our initial fight, evidenced by two failed drug tests, yet he has never taken responsibility.”
“He consistently denied the allegations, offered no apologies, made no admissions, and displayed no willingness to take ownership of his actions.”
“I find it impossible to forgive such behavior, respect such a stance, or shake his hand until he demonstrates some form of accountability. But he’s not willing to do that.”
Benn’s positive test was for clomifene, a substance known to elevate testosterone levels and prohibited for athletes.
Subsequently, UK Anti-Doping provisionally suspended Benn. However, he continued his career in the U.S., securing two victories while awaiting the resolution of his case.
