Errani Credits Grand Slam Victory as Pinnacle of Achievement

PARIS: Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini of Italy clinched their first Grand Slam women’s doubles title, overcoming Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan and Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory at Court Philippe-Chatrier on Sunday.

This triumph enhances their already remarkable achievements; the duo previously secured the women’s doubles gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, also held at this prestigious venue.

For veteran Errani, this marks her second significant win this week, having earlier captured the French Open mixed doubles title partnering with Andrea Vavassori.

The initial set saw both teams trading breaks, characterized by fluctuating momentum. It concluded at 6-4 following a crucial break at 5-4 achieved by the Italian pair.

Danilina, a 2022 Australian Open doubles finalist, and Krunić showcased resilience in the second set, dominating with a 6-2 score to seize control of the match.

However, the Italian team rebounded impressively in the deciding set, swiftly breaking Danilina and Krunić to forge a dominant 5-0 advantage.

Their assertive gameplay proved insurmountable for Danilina and Krunić, cementing Errani and Paolini’s status as French Open champions.

During the trophy presentation, Errani reflected on their journey, emphasizing the continuous nature of tennis and the necessity of sustained daily focus, even amid challenges. She asserted that securing a Grand Slam title represents the ultimate accomplishment in the sport.

“It’s tennis, it’s continuous, every single day,” Errani stated.

“The key is maintaining focus daily, acknowledging that enjoyment might not always be complete due to the relentless nature. Yet, at this moment, the magnitude of our achievement is palpable. Winning a grand slam stands as the paramount accomplishment,” she concluded.
