Isak Expresses Desire to Exit Newcastle Amidst Liverpool Interest
Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has stated that both he and the team would embrace striker Alexander Isak should he choose to return. He characterized the current strained situation as a ‘lose-lose’ for all involved, as they prepare to face Premier League champions Liverpool on Monday.
Reports suggest that the Swedish forward has been linked to a transfer to Liverpool and has voiced his desire to join the Reds before the transfer window concludes on September 1. It is rumored that Liverpool submitted an offer valued at £110 million, in addition to potential add-ons, earlier in the month.
Isak has allegedly communicated his wish to depart Newcastle, further accusing the club of misleading its fanbase and reneging on prior commitments through a social media announcement made on Tuesday.
Newcastle officials have countered by asserting that there were no prior guarantees made regarding the sale of the 25-year-old, who remains under contract with the club until 2028.
“There’s been no change,” Howe commented on Friday.
“It’s a lose-lose situation. I don’t think we can come out of this winning in any situation.”
Howe reiterated that Isak would be welcomed back into the fold should he decide to stay.
“I have no doubt about how the players will feel. They will feel the same way I do. Alex is a fantastic player, he’s a good person, a good character and a good lad,” Howe remarked.
“If Alex wanted to come back and play for us, the players would welcome him.
“I00% I want to see him back in a Newcastle shirt.”
Howe clarified that there are no personal conflicts between him and Isak; however, he acknowledged the complexity of the situation, which has led to a period of non-communication between them.
“There’s no issues there. Of course it’s a difficult situation from both sides and it’s far from ideal for both parties,” he said.
“When we bump in to each other, we speak but as I say I’ve not seen him this week as he’s training later on and detached from the group.”
Regarding the recent public statements from both Isak and the club, the manager expressed his preference for such matters to be handled internally.
“Everything is better dealt with behind closed doors but in this situation, needs must and in this situation the club has spoken and justifiably so in that moment,” he concluded.
