Dustin Poirier Announces New Role After UFC Retirement

Former American Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Dustin Poirier, fresh off his final fight against Max Holloway, has revealed his next career move just two weeks after retiring from the UFC, according to reports.

Poirier’s last appearance in the Octagon was on July 19th at the Smoothie King Centre against Holloway, where he was defeated by decision.

Having concluded a 14-year UFC career, the American fighter, who previously served as a desk analyst earlier in the year, announced his return to the role as a UFC analyst.

“Looking forward to getting back on the desk,” he stated on social media. “Going to start focusing on that now.”

Dustin Poirier established himself with significant victories during his career, notably including two consecutive wins against Conor McGregor in 2021.

The 36-year-old also faced opponents such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Anthony Pettis, and Islam Makhachev.

He expresses satisfaction with his decision to retire from competition.

“Reflecting on the fight and its immediate aftermath, I felt I had done enough,” he said regarding his loss to Holloway.

“I desired one more intense battle, and he delivered it. During the rounds, while speaking with my boxing coach, I felt I could have taken greater risks, but I was also trying to protect myself, a way I’ve never really fought before.

“I would always expose myself to danger to land impactful shots, but I didn’t in this fight, which perhaps indicates that my decision was the right one. Self-preservation, returning home safely to my family, that kind of thinking.”
