Dubois to Face Sanchez in Final Eliminator for World Title Shot
Daniel Dubois has reportedly agreed to a final eliminator bout against Frank Sanchez. This fight presents a significant opportunity for Dubois, as the victor will secure a mandatory challenge for Oleksandr Usyk’s world title, according to a Sky Sports report.
Dubois was presented with this chance after several other contenders, including Efe Ajagba, Moses Itauma, and Richard Torrez Jr., declined eliminator matches against Sanchez.
Ajagba, previously defeated by Sanchez on points, opted out of a final eliminator clash. Meanwhile, rising British star Itauma is pursuing alternative opponents. Torrez Jnr. was next in line for a potential IBF fight with Sanchez but didn’t take the offer.
Sanchez boasts a notable record of 25 victories and one defeat. His sole loss occurred in May 2024 against Agit Kabayel, where he was stopped in the seventh round.
Dubois’s previous attempt to seize the heavyweight crown ended in a fifth-round knockout defeat against Usyk at Wembley Stadium on July 19. This rematch aimed to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time.
Following his victory, Usyk achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first boxer to attain undisputed champion status for the third time, adding to his previous reigns at cruiserweight (2018) and heavyweight (2024).
After his second loss to Usyk, Dubois opted for changes within his team, parting ways with his trainer, Don Charles, and coach Kieran Farrell.
He has enlisted Sam Jones as his advisor and is now focused on securing a victory in a potential trilogy fight against Usyk.
Dubois initially faced Usyk in August 2023, where Usyk triumphed with a ninth-round knockout in Poland, having knocked Dubois down twice during the contest.
