Kings Secure Doug McDermott with New Contract
The Sacramento Kings have officially welcomed back forward Doug McDermott, a free agent, with a one-year contract valued at USD 3.6 million. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the team.
McDermott, aged 33, is gearing up for his 12th NBA season and his second stint with the Kings. During the previous season, he participated in 42 games, starting in three, and averaged 3.5 points in approximately 8.1 minutes per game.
Despite his limited time on the court, he achieved a career-high three-point shooting percentage of 43.6, solidifying his reputation as a dependable marksman coming off the bench.
The Kings have highlighted McDermott’s value as a seasoned player and his shooting accuracy. They mentioned that while his playing time might be restricted if DeMar DeRozan and Keegan Murray remain healthy, he continues to be a useful depth option.
In a statement, the team noted, “McDermott is preparing to rejoin Sacramento for his second season, where he will contribute a veteran presence from the bench.”
Team representatives also commented on McDermott’s efficient use of his playing minutes last season, along with his professionalism and preparedness.
The Kings emphasized, “Last year, McDermott played an average of just 8.1 minutes per game across 42 regular-season games but impressively shot a career-best 43.6 percent from three-point range during his limited appearances.”
McDermott was initially drafted as the 11th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2014 NBA Draft and has since played for seven teams over 11 seasons.
Throughout his career, he has averaged 8.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, maintaining a 41.1 percent shooting accuracy from beyond the arc.
