Pakistan Secures Two More Golds at Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship
Pakistan concluded the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship in Doha with a flourish, adding two more gold medals to their tally on the final day. This brings their total haul to an impressive eight gold medals, alongside one silver and two bronze.
Furqan Anwar’s Triumph
Furqan Anwar shone in the men’s 89kg category (Age Group 30), securing a gold medal for Pakistan. His total lift of 315 kilograms earned him the distinction of being named the best lifter in the men’s division. Anwar demonstrated his strength with a 143kg lift in the snatch and 172kg in the clean and jerk.
Earlier Success for Umar Rasool Lone
Previously, Umar Rasool Lone had clinched gold in the men’s 89kg category (Age Group 35), achieving a total lift of 276kg, which included 121kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk.
Usman Rathore’s Bronze
Usman Rathore added to Pakistan’s medal count by securing bronze in the men’s 109kg category (Age Group 35) with a total lift of 282kg. Notably, his father, Maqsood Amjad Rathore, had previously won gold for Pakistan on the competition’s opening day.
Overall Performance
Pakistan’s overall performance at the championship was remarkable, culminating in eight gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. The list of gold medalists includes Furqan Anwar, Umar Rasool Lone, Rashid Khan, Kashif Rehan, Muhammad Iqbal, Nadia Maqsood, Sibel Sohail, and Maqsood Amjad Rathore. Neelam Riaz secured a silver medal, while Usman Amjad Rathore and Abdul Malik each earned bronze medals.
