Djokovic Set to Clash with Hurkacz in Geneva Final

GENEVA: Novak Djokovic is one step closer to securing his 100th ATP Tour-level singles title after a challenging semi-final victory against Cameron Norrie of Britain. Djokovic prevailed with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1 at the Tennis Club de Genève on Friday.

Djokovic commenced the match with authority, taking the first set against Norrie. The British player countered in the second set, leveling the match, but couldn’t maintain control. The Serbian then seized command in the third set, clinching the win.

Djokovic, aiming for his first title since winning Olympic gold in Paris last summer, is now scheduled to compete against Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the final on Saturday.

Following his victory, Djokovic admitted the match was intensely competitive. He commended his opponent’s skill but noted his own resurgence in the third set, which he described as his finest performance in the tournament thus far.

The Serbian tennis star described the match as his most demanding of the tournament. He expressed satisfaction with his determination in the third set, stating it was his best showing at the Geneva Open.

“Without a doubt, this has been the most challenging match of the tournament for me,” Djokovic stated.

“During the second set, he gained a break, and I managed to recover to the tiebreak… However, I am pleased with how I pulled myself together in the third set and delivered my best performance of the tournament.”

This marks Djokovic’s second final appearance this year, following the Miami Open, where he was defeated by Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.

An ATP 250 title in Geneva could serve as an ideal confidence boost leading up to the French Open, where he will pursue a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title.

Novak Djokovic is slated to face Mackenzie McDonald of the USA in the first round at Roland Garros, beginning on Sunday.
