Doubts Raised on Chimaev’s Title Reign Activity

Khamzat Chimaev’s potential as a defending UFC champion has been questioned by former Mixed Martial Artist Din Thomas, according to recent reports.

Chimaev currently holds the middleweight title, secured after his victory against Dricus du Plessis of South Africa at UFC 319 on August 16 at the United Centre.

Numerous fighters are already vying for a title opportunity against the current Russian middleweight titleholder, particularly with upcoming matches like Imavov vs Borralho and de Ridder vs Hernandez.

Despite his championship status, some experts are uncertain about Chimaev’s ring presence, citing missed fights and a perceived lack of consistent activity in the past.

Thomas expressed reservations about Chimaev’s ability to be an active champion, despite his acknowledged talent.

“It was quite clear. It seemed like everyone shared the same sentiment. People didn’t resonate with my views on Khamzat and his consistency, and they assumed I was against his victory. I actually predicted his win. I believe he’s the superior fighter,” Thomas stated.

“When he won, I thought, ‘Great,’ and then upon hearing of a potential fight in Abu Dhabi, I was skeptical.

“Subsequently, I commented, and I recently came across a piece stating, ‘UFC analyst claimed Khamzat Chimaev was being untruthful.’ I might have suggested something similar, but it wasn’t intended that way.

“Ultimately, I’m simply emphasizing that he’s a phenomenal fighter, but the prospect of him being a highly active champion, frequently defending his title, seems unlikely.”

Chimaev maintains an unblemished record since turning pro five years prior, boasting 15 wins and no losses after his recent triumph.
