Tigers Maul White Sox as Carpenter Crushes Three Homers
CHICAGO: Kerry Carpenter, the designated hitter, delivered a spectacular performance with three home runs, leading the Detroit Tigers to a dominant 13-1 victory against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday.
After a game’s rest, Carpenter achieved his first three-homer game, propelling the Tigers to become the first major league team to reach 40 wins this season.
Peter Meadows, in his season debut following recovery from a right upper arm nerve issue, reached base four times and scored three runs.
Meadows’ Reaction
“It’s truly a humbling experience,” Meadows expressed. “I feel incredibly fortunate to be back here with the team.”
Manager’s Perspective
Tigers manager AJ Hinch welcomed Meadows back into the lineup, emphasizing his positive impact. “We are a stronger team with him – whether it’s his position at the top of the lineup, his powerful left-handed batting, his speed, defensive skills, or his overall presence and the positive energy he brings,” Hinch remarked. “His return is significant, and it enhances our team. It will allow for interesting lineup arrangements and a more robust bench.”
Chicago’s pitcher, Jonathan Cannon, began by striking out Meadows, but the Tigers responded with a strong offensive display, accumulating 16 hits.
Chase Meidroth made a contribution with a single, a double, a walk, and scored the sole run for Chicago. The remainder of the lineup struggled, with Austin Slater’s double being the only other extra-base hit for the team.
After maintaining a 2.23 ERA over six starts in April, pitching 32 1/3 innings, Smith faced greater difficulties in May, only managing one out in the sixth inning over five starts.
The White Sox have now suffered defeats in seven of their last eight games and are currently 0-4 against the Tigers this season.
