Derek Chisora Plans Retirement After 50th Fight
British boxer Derek Chisora has announced his intention to retire after his 50th professional fight, according to recent reports. Chisora (49-36-13) is currently seeking a suitable opponent for this final bout.
The 41-year-old is reportedly interested in facing a prominent name from his era. Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker are considered the leading candidates for this concluding showdown against the British veteran.
Chisora revealed that he declined an offer to fight rising star Moses Itauma in August.
Chisora’s Statement
“They proposed a fight with Moses Itauma in Saudi Arabia. When I inquired about the purse, they offered two million, but I declined,” Chisora stated.
Following Chisora’s refusal, Whyte accepted the fight with Itauma. Their match is scheduled for August 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Chisora, however, expressed concerns about the suitability of this fight for Whyte.
Chisora’s Concerns for Whyte
“That fight isn’t ideal for Dillian right now. We have to decide who will face the consequences when Dillian is severely beaten. Either George or Frank Warren will have to answer,” Chisora commented.
Earlier this year, Chisora secured his IBF mandatory spot by defeating Otto Wallin. However, with WBO interim champion Parker next in line, Chisora might have to wait until late 2026 for a title opportunity.
Chisora hopes the belts will be divided after Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois’ fight on July 19, potentially creating an opening for a trilogy fight with Parker.
Chisora’s Plan
“That is the intention, but promoters can be unpredictable. They might disrupt the plan if they disagree with it. Nevertheless, that remains the goal,” Chisora added.
“I am the IBF mandatory challenger; I earned that position. I had to go to New York to secure it. The IBF president assured me my position was secure. I would be pleased if Usyk or Daniel relinquish the WBO and IBF titles, allowing Joseph and I to compete for them,” he concluded.
