De’Aaron Fox Inks Massive Deal with Spurs

SAN ANTONIO: De’Aaron Fox has reportedly committed to a four-year, USD 229 million maximum contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs, according to international reports on Monday.

The agreement apparently does not have a player option, guaranteeing Fox will be under contract through the 2029-30 NBA season.

Fox, who was acquired from the Sacramento Kings in a trade last February, had expressed a desire to join San Antonio, citing the absence of state income tax and the team’s history of championships.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the long-term commitment, Fox stated, “Being part of an organization like this is special. You can feel it in the environment and among the fans.”

The 26-year-old guard accumulated averages of 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 62 games played with both the Spurs and Kings last season.

Despite dealing with a tendon injury for several months, Fox continued playing until he had season-ending finger surgery in March, joking, “The difference going forward is fans will see me play with 10 fingers.”

Now, Fox highlights a youthful and promising Spurs group, which includes consecutive Rookies of the Year Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, along with this year’s second overall draft pick, Dylan Harper.

The Spurs anticipate that their new backcourt trio, composed of Fox, Harper, and Castle, will guide the team back into contention for championships.

An All-Star and All-NBA selection, Fox stands out as one of only two players, together with Luka Doncic, to have averaged 20-plus points, five-plus assists, and one-plus steals in each of the last six seasons, demonstrating his consistency.
