De Bruyne Expresses Surprise Over Lack of Contract Offer

Kevin De Bruyne, the departing Manchester City captain, voiced his bewilderment on Sunday regarding the club’s choice not to present him with a new contract.

After a decade with City, the Belgian midfielder’s tenure is concluding as the club opted against renewing his contract, which expires this summer. He revealed his impending departure earlier in the month.

The 33-year-old De Bruyne acknowledged that he has not yet determined his future plans.

“I didn’t receive any offers throughout the year; they simply made a decision,” De Bruyne stated.

“Naturally, I was somewhat taken aback, but I must accept it. I still believe I can perform at this level, as I’m demonstrating, but I understand that clubs have to make these decisions.”

Following his breakthrough at Genk in Belgium, De Bruyne’s initial Premier League experience was challenging, leading to his departure from Chelsea after only nine appearances.

A transfer to Wolfsburg revitalized his career, culminating in his recognition as the German player of the season in 2014/15, as his team finished second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

City’s acquisition of him for $72 million was initially met with skepticism, given his previous struggles at Chelsea.

However, he quickly silenced his critics and became a crucial player under Pep Guardiola’s management.

Kevin De Bruyne has not ruled out remaining in the Premier League, but also indicated that he requires time to deliberate.

“I’m willing to consider any available project. I enjoy football and playing, so if an appealing project arises and my family is comfortable with it, we can make a decision,” he commented.

The Belgian received substantial offers from the Saudi Pro League last year but chose to remain at Manchester City. He has also been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in the United States.

“I’m receptive to anything. I need to consider the entire picture, including sporting aspects, family considerations, and everything else that makes sense for me and my family,” he added.

“I enjoy playing football and competing. That’s how I feel, so I can’t say I want to quit because I still feel like I want to beat the guys whenever I’m in training.”
