David Wiese Withdraws from PSL 10

David Wiese, the seasoned all-rounder for Lahore Qalandars, has officially announced his withdrawal from the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, scheduled to resume on May 17 in Rawalpindi.

Wiese cited heightened tensions between India and Pakistan as the primary reason for his decision. He mentioned the impact these tensions had on his family during a recent interview with a sports publication.

“The toll on my family was significant. Despite knowing we were far from the borders and well-protected in Pakistan, the news portrayed a different reality, making my family believe lives were constantly at risk,” Wiese stated.

“Therefore, I’ve chosen not to return for the rest of the tournament. The emotional impact is still too recent and profound on my family,” he added.

Since joining the Lahore Qalandars in 2018, the 39-year-old has been an essential part of the team.

Over 54 matches, he has accumulated 629 runs with an average of 24.19 and a strike rate of 161.69. He has also claimed 38 wickets, maintaining an average of 32.02 and an economy rate of 8.26. In PSL 10, Wiese participated in just one game.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the schedule for the remaining PSL 10 games on Tuesday.

The league will restart on May 17 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with a match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.

On May 19, a double-header will occur at the same venue, featuring Quetta Gladiators against Multan Sultans in the afternoon, followed by Lahore Qalandars versus Peshawar Zalmi in the evening.

The final Rawalpindi match is set for May 19 between Islamabad United, the defending champions, and Karachi Kings.

Following this, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the playoffs, including the Qualifier, Eliminator 1, and Eliminator 2, on May 21, 22, and 23, respectively. The final is scheduled for May 25.

Currently, Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Afridi, holds the fourth position on the points table, with four wins, four losses, and one abandoned match due to rain.

Their last league-stage match is against Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 in Rawalpindi.
