Mehidy Hasan Miraz Set to Rejoin Bangladesh Squad for Second Test
Bangladesh has received encouraging news as Test vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz is anticipated to be available for selection in the second Test match against Sri Lanka, having recuperated from a recent fever.
Mehidy had to sit out of the two-day training camp preceding the series opener in Galle and was subsequently unable to participate in the first Test.
His prolonged absence during the initial days of the match had sparked concerns regarding his participation for the remainder of the series.
However, the all-rounder alleviated these concerns by participating in the team’s practice session in Colombo on Thursday, June 19.
“He (Mehidy) is showing significant improvement and was present at the ground today,” stated team manager Nafees Iqbal.
Sources within the team have verified that Mehidy is recovering effectively and is expected to be ready for the second Test, which is scheduled to commence on June 25 in Colombo.
His return would greatly benefit Bangladesh, especially on a pitch that is expected to favor spin bowlers.
In Mehidy’s absence, Anamul Haque Bijoy was chosen for the playing XI in the first Test but did not perform well, getting dismissed for zero in the first innings.
Mehidy, a prominent Test run-scorer for Bangladesh and a vital member of their spin attack, will be essential as the team aims to draw the two-match series.
In related news, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials have verified that spin bowling consultant Mushtaq Ahmed departed Galle on June 17 after fulfilling his planned responsibilities.
He is scheduled to rejoin the team during the ODI part of the tour, which is slated to begin in early July.
“BCB and Mushtaq have an agreement based on the number of working days. He was there during the preparation phase and departed after completing his designated duties. He will return on July 6,” he said.
Mushtaq was actively involved in practice sessions in both Dhaka and Galle in preparation for the Test series.
