Cormier Disagrees with Khabib’s Prediction for Topuria vs. Tsarukyan
Daniel Cormier has shared his perspective on a hypothetical match between lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and Arman Tsarukyan, responding to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s assessment.
Topuria has rapidly risen to prominence in mixed martial arts, particularly after his impressive knockout victory over Charles Oliveira in June to claim the lightweight title.
The undefeated lightweight champion, boasting a 17-0 professional record, transitioned from featherweight following a successful run that featured victories against formidable opponents like Josh Emmett and Bryce Mitchell.
Topuria’s triumph also places him among a select group of fighters who have secured UFC titles across multiple weight classes.
Tsarukyan, currently the top-ranked contender, is vying for a title opportunity against Topuria, holding a four-fight winning streak in the UFC.
Khabib recently stated that he anticipates Tsarukyan would decisively win against Topuria, estimating an “80%-20% in Arman’s favor.”
Cormier, in a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, presented a different opinion on Topuria versus Sarukyan, contradicting Nurmagomedov’s view.
“80-20 is a crazy prediction. I don’t agree with that assessment,” Cormier stated.
“I disagree with Khabib on that one. I don’t believe anyone is beating Ilia Topuria 8 out of 10 times. That’s my honest opinion.”
Khabib, with an unblemished UFC record of 29-0, is considered by many to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time.
Sarukyan acknowledged Khabib as an inspiration, citing the legend’s impact on his early career.
“I observe various fighters, studying their movements and wrestling techniques,” Sarukyan commented.
“Khabib [Nurmagomedov] was a significant source of inspiration when I began training in MMA. Because of his origin, he was a role model for us.”
