Civil Awards Announced for Sports Personalities

The government has revealed the recipients of civil awards for several distinguished individuals in sports on the 78th anniversary of Independence Day, with former cricket team captain Shahid Afridi among them.

These accolades recognize their exceptional services to sports.

Afridi, who participated in 524 international matches and contributed to Pakistan’s victory in the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will receive the Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his achievements.

Mountaineer Shehroze Kashif, the youngest Pakistani to scale all 14 peaks above 8,000m, and the late Equestrian Malik Muhammad Atta, will also be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

Sana Mir, an ICC Hall of Famer, has been nominated for the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for her contributions to cricket. Mir, who represented Pakistan for approximately 15 years, was the first Pakistani female cricketer inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Para-athlete Haider Ali, Pakistan’s most decorated, is also nominated for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, having secured four medals, including a bronze at the recent Paris Paralympics in Discus Throw.

Mixed Martial Artist Shahzaib Rind and Kabaddi player Muhammad Sajjad will receive the President’s Award for Pride of Performance (PAPP) for their accomplishments.

Squash player Hamza Khan, shooter Mohsin Nawaz, and Tennis player Rashid Malik have been nominated for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

The awards presentation is scheduled for Pakistan Day on March 23, 2026.
