Chelsea Pursuing Ajax Defender Jorrel Hato

Chelsea Football Club is reportedly nearing an agreement with Ajax for the acquisition of defender Jorrel Hato in a deal estimated at £40 million, according to recent reports from international media outlets.

Sources indicate that Hato has already settled on personal terms, paving the way for a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

While the final agreement between the two clubs remains to be formally concluded, expectations are high that it will materialize in the coming days.

Hato’s arrival would represent Enzo Maresca’s eighth signing during the summer transfer window, joining new recruits such as Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, and Liam Delap, who have already committed to the Blues.

The addition of Hato would likely push Chelsea’s total spending past the £250 million threshold.

Ajax provided Hato with his first opportunity at the senior level when he was just 16 years old. Since then, he has made 111 appearances for the club, contributing four goals and nine assists.

The Netherlands international has earned six caps for his national team since his debut as a 17-year-old in 2023.

Jorrel Hato also participated in the Euros with the Netherlands under-21 team earlier this summer, where he captained the side during their semi-final defeat against England.

Maresca’s squad is scheduled to resume action with two pre-season friendlies at Stamford Bridge prior to the commencement of the new season. Hato could potentially make his debut in these matches if the transfer is finalized.
