Alcaraz Set to Clash with Norrie in Quarterfinals

Carlos Alcaraz overcame a strong challenge from Andrey Rublev in their round of 16 match at Centre Court on Sunday. The Spaniard secured a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory, advancing closer to a potential third consecutive Wimbledon title.

With this win, the second-seeded Alcaraz has now won 18 straight matches at Wimbledon and 22 overall across all events.

Despite a shaky start, Alcaraz recovered to defeat a determined Rublev, who once again fell short against a top-tier opponent.

Rublev began aggressively, establishing a 4-1 lead early on, but Alcaraz forced a tiebreak. The Russian managed to win the first set, gaining an initial advantage.

Alcaraz maintained composure and evened the score after a crucial double fault from Rublev on a break point. Although Rublev continued to play well, he missed opportunities on early break points, allowing Alcaraz to elevate his performance.

In the fourth set, Alcaraz proved difficult to overtake, with a single service break proving sufficient to clinch his 22nd consecutive match victory.

The Spanish tennis sensation is now scheduled to compete against Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the upcoming quarterfinal.

Following the match, Alcaraz praised Rublev, acknowledging him as one of the most formidable players he has encountered.

“Andrey stands out as one of the most powerful competitors on the tour, consistently displaying aggression. Facing him presents a significant challenge, as he pushes you to your limits on every play,” Alcaraz commented.

“I am very pleased with my movement and my intelligent and tactical approach. Overall, it was an excellent match.”
