Callum Chick Aims for More England Caps After Joining Northampton Saints
Northampton Saints have officially confirmed the acquisition of Callum Chick from Newcastle Falcons for the 2025-26 season. Chick, who has represented the Falcons in over 150 matches, was revealed as the second forward to sign with the Saints, following Italian prop Danilo Fischetti’s arrival last month.
Expressing his enthusiasm in a statement released by the Saints, the 28-year-old Chick hailed the move as ‘perfect,’ citing the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional coaches and players.
“I’m aiming to add to my England caps, and I believe that requires a fresh experience,” Chick stated. “Northampton appears to be the ideal destination for me. I appreciate their style of play, and they boast some outstanding coaches and players.”
He further added, “The overall standard at Northampton is impressive, particularly in the back row, which features some remarkable talents. I’m eager to learn from them and incorporate that into my own game. Competition for places encourages everyone to perform at their best, and I’m excited about that aspect.”
The former Newcastle captain has made a significant impact in the league, ranking fifth with 173 meters gained, eighth with 12 turnovers won, and tenth with 217 carries.
Northampton’s director of rugby, Phil Dowson, mentioned that the team had previously approached Callum Chick a few years prior, but he declined the offer at the time.
“We initially engaged with Callum some years ago and were impressed even then. He chose to remain in Newcastle, and that loyalty speaks volumes about his character – his leadership as captain and the significant impact he’s had through his playing style,” Dowson commented.
“We were looking for a dynamic ball-carrying back row player, and Callum possesses those qualities in abundance; his ball-carrying skills and ability to distribute the ball, along with his impactful defensive hits, were evident in our recent match against Newcastle.”
Chick’s departure to the Saints marks a setback for the Falcons, as they lose one of their homegrown talents and their captain. Chick has been a consistent presence for Newcastle, starting in all 15 Premiership games this year.
