Caleb Ewan Announces Retirement from Professional Cycling
Caleb Ewan, a sprinter renowned in the professional cycling world, has declared his immediate retirement at the age of 30.
The Australian cyclist shared his decision via Instagram on Tuesday, marking the conclusion of a career celebrated for its speed, resolve, and memorable triumphs.
Ewan stated, “After considerable deliberation, I’ve chosen to retire from professional cycling, effective immediately. This sport has profoundly influenced my life, determining my path and providing experiences I will always treasure.”
Nicknamed the “Pocket Rocket” due to his powerful sprints, Ewan accumulated 65 professional victories. These included 11 stage wins in Grand Tours, comprising five at the Tour de France, five at the Giro d’Italia, and one at the Vuelta a España.
He also exerted considerable influence on his home turf, securing nine stage victories in the Tour Down Under and achieving second place twice at Milan-San Remo.
However, the latter part of Ewan’s career experienced turbulence. Following a challenging exit from Lotto Soudal and a brief period with Team Jayco-AlUla, he again faced being without a team.
Ineos Grenadiers presented him with a new opportunity in early 2025. Ewan capitalized on this, achieving an encouraging victory at Coppi e Bartali Week and another in the Tour of the Basque Country, signaling a resurgence in his performance.
Ultimately, emotional exhaustion and a shifting perspective on the sport contributed to his decision to retire. “What I once considered my everything no longer holds that significance,” he confessed. “The past two seasons exacted a toll I could no longer disregard.”
Ewan conveyed his appreciation to Ineos Grenadiers for reigniting his self-assurance and thanked his supporters for their steadfast loyalty. John Allert, CEO of Ineos, lauded him as “a champion in every sense.”
