Brewers Crush Nationals with Season-High Offensive Explosion
WASHINGTON: The Milwaukee Brewers overwhelmed the Washington Nationals with a 16-9 victory at Nationals Park on Friday, fueled by Blake Perkins’s two home runs and William Contreras’s impressive five-hit game.
Contreras, maintaining his strong performance at the plate, contributed a home run and a double to his outstanding night, while Andrew Vaughn hit his sixth home run in 17 games.
Milwaukee’s offense reached a season-best 25 hits, which equals their third-highest total in franchise history. This marks their most prolific single-game hitting display since August 2, 2010, when they tallied 26 hits against the Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but quickly responded with Perkins’s solo home run in the second.
They seized the lead in the third inning by putting six straight runners on base, emphasized by Andruw Monasterio’s double and Joey Ortiz’s run-scoring double. Perkins added his second home run in the fifth, pushing Milwaukee’s advantage to 8-2.
Jose Quintana (8-4) secured the win, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.
Brandon Lockridge, recently acquired from San Diego on Thursday, made a noteworthy Brewers debut, going two for six.
Washington’s Mitchell Parker (7-11) struggled, allowing eight runs on 12 hits in just four innings.
Despite recording 15 hits, the Nationals suffered their third straight defeat. CJ Abrams had three hits, and Brady House drove in two runs during a five-run rally in the ninth inning. However, their late push wasn’t enough to overcome Milwaukee’s dominant offensive performance.
The series is set to continue on Saturday, with Brewers ace Brandon Woodruff scheduled to face Nationals starter Jake Irvin.
