Gondomar SC Pays Tribute to Jota and Silva with Special Kit

Portuguese club Gondomar SC, where Diogo Jota and Andre Silva played as youngsters, will honor the brothers, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain on July 3, with their kit for the 2025/26 season.

The fourth-tier team, Gondomar SC, has included images of the late Jota and Silva on the front of their jerseys, along with their names displayed below an infinity symbol on the back.

The club’s home, away, and third kits will all feature the images and names of the esteemed players.

Gondomar SC, competing in the Campeonato de Portugal, shared images of their new jersey on their Instagram account, accompanied by the caption, “More than a jersey, an eternal tribute.”

The post continued, “Because football signifies more than just wins and goals; it represents legacy, family, and a passion for our homeland.”

“Our new jersey proudly displays the images of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, two sons of Gondomar who departed too soon but will forever remain in the history of our club and our footballing community.”

“Each time our players don this jersey, it feels as though they are stepping onto the field alongside them.”

Diogo Jota and Andre Silva spent their formative years in Gondomar, a suburb of Porto.

Last month, Liverpool announced that their players would wear a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets throughout the current Premier League season.

Following discussions with Jota’s family, Liverpool has also retired his shirt number, No. 20, across all levels of the men’s and women’s teams to honor the late player.

Diogo Jota was a key player in Liverpool’s recent achievements, notably their Premier League title in 2024–25, the FA Cup victory in 2022, and League Cup wins in both 2022 and 2024.

On the international stage, Jota earned 49 caps for the Portugal national team.
