Blue Jays Triumph Over Yankees in Rogers Centre Showdown

TORONTO: A ninth-inning blast by Ben Rice, coupled with homers from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Cody Bellinger, powered the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-4 victory over the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre on Wednesday night, as the Jays took advantage of errors.

Toronto’s starting pitcher, Chris Bassitt, had a noteworthy performance, pitching seven and one-third innings. He conceded four runs (three earned) on three hits, maintaining control without a single walk.

Bassitt’s strong pitching, combined with opportune hitting, allowed the Blue Jays to maintain command throughout the majority of the game.

The Yankees initially took the lead with solo home runs courtesy of Jasson Domínguez and Anthony Volpe.

Aaron Judge added a two-run homer in the third inning, marking his 352nd career home run and securing sixth place on the Yankees’ all-time list.

However, New York’s defensive struggles proved detrimental. Toronto rallied with a three-run second inning and added two more in the fifth without a hit, capitalizing on wild pitches and defensive mistakes by Yankees pitcher Max Fried (11-4).

Fried faced a tough night, surrendering six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in five and one-third innings.

The Blue Jays regained the lead in the sixth when Ernie Clement’s fly ball was dropped by Bellinger, resulting in an RBI double from Myles Straw.

Further errors by first baseman Ben Rice and Fried compounded the Yankees’ problems. Tensions rose in the seventh inning, leading to the ejection of Yankees manager Aaron Boone and pitching coach Matt Blake after a disputed third strike call on Volpe.

Bo Bichette’s seventh-inning home run against reliever Scott Effross solidified the win, extending Toronto’s division lead.
